update 101

so a few things have been kicking into gear lately (yup, cos i'm a heaps big 'car' kinda guy) and it's getting exciting again! orange has been getting great play on the j's and the finishing touches on the clip are being done as I speak and will hopefully be with you soon.. and next friday night we are going on tour to support it with the eulogies (from z USA) and so it will be our first proper run of shows for the year and hopefully non-stop after that..

we've today been nominated in the shortlist for the vanda and young songwriting competition for feel it leave.. niiice.. other things are happening behind the scenes and i must for now keep them in my little black book of secrets and stalking notes.

had an interesting but very enjoyable set at bathurst the other night too.. played close to 90 minutes which we hardly ever do seeing as our catalogue doesn't stretch that far!! but the people at charles sturt uni were celebrating and were very accomodating and also very drunk. a few of us had to go, a few of us got to stay.. i was one of them that stayed & I am now convinced, even though I was considerably out of it on free alcohol, that we need to update our rider requests.. (2 beers each, wine, water, soft drink).. but that's a story for another time.

kg out of here.

meeting mr branson

A few weeks back we did a short set with the villians of wilhelm and dappled cities to celebrate the opening of the new virgin mobile metro in sydney.. mr richard branson was in the country to pick up one of his many toys, I think a yacht, and I am mega jealous of him as I'm sure we all are. If I could fly into a country and say 'I'm just here to pick up my luxury yacht' I would be so happy - yes, I reference south park reguarly -

anyhoo, off topic again here, back to the videos of the night posted on moshcam.. I'm gonna post a couple of the songs as they're from our debut LP due out Jan-Feb 2010 titled 'By Limbo Lake'.. yes it has a meaning, but not now, i'll explain later ..and yes, all hick-ups and mistakes are intentional, expect the record to be full of them! k

Here's trans/ending & paper flames for all those interested in what sort of a record we've been making..

homecoming

I am sitting here, listening to one of our oldest songs realise itself finally.....ahhhh smokestar, you are dear to me.....and you sound fucking beautiful.....can't wait for you all to hear it.
Tomorrow we play in good old Newcastle, for the first time since december....wow, that feels really strange to have not played in our hometown for so long.....what arseholes we are....

tomorrow we will lavish our new babies upon the institution that is the cambridge....

gonna destroy the place.....if you come we can do it together.....blow the roof right off it....

so we are almost halfway through mixing....by this time next week our toils will be over and our debut album will be done. I can't wait....

"follow the water all the way down to the border, know that you and i are never growing old...."

nighty night.......TRENT. xo.

afterthought: maybe it is not too late too change our name to Powerful Creatures.....once the album is out it WILL be too late.....will sleep on it....

when you were young

or should i say when we were young.. this is in 2007 (maybe may?) after we won the garage 2 V comp where we took many a napkins and trent even slowly crept on stage during the soulwax set.. that's what we do best

mixing.

.so we here at seablliiii HQ are in the process of having our tracks mixed by mr wayne conolly.

.trent is down at albert studios each night with him and the rest of us are here in newcastle - we get a track sent each night/early morning and make sure all is well. which it is!

.so far 3 songs with some single potential have been (almost) completed, they're sounding great. and because we used a lot of our own instruments and amps it sounds like us, which feels good.

.we've got our first newcastle show of the YEAR! coming up this weekend. can't believe it's been this long between shows, but we did however spend 2 years on the road with no real breaks trying to slut our music around. and now we're more eager than ever to play the album live.

.i just emptied out my mobile phone pictures and found some old pics from one of our tours last year. i think these snaps are from perth somewhere if i recall correctly...

that's todays update, like i said, brain no work today. here video. bye!

what we've been up to

so we're getting close now. under a week now i think! we've today only implemented the system that I (kg) come in earlier than trent and do some g-tars and then once he comes in he's all rested up and belts out a vocal.. like young cubs so far today. spot on. awesome. good job! that brings me to what i've been watching to keep my spirits up, tim and eric awesome show, great job! segway of a lifetime. here's a crazy skit from it..

WHERE'S MY SON??!! ha. crazy, i know. but hilarious yeah?
that's my update for today. the good thing about blogs is it can be personal ramblings and no-one can criticise it! bbbbyyyeee

lucky number 13

so we're into day 13 of the recording process here at Albert studios in neutral bay sydney. today songs are starting to round out as the last few days we've been adding guitar layers, percussion, more drums, yes, more. vocals for a song or two have been underway and trent is laying down a take now so it's great to have things all coming together..

such as artwork too. and the album name. although both work in progress, they both feel right and suit the album to us..

today it's just me (kg), and trent. sean came in yesterday for overdubs, ed the days before with bass, and now it's guitars until the end of the week when steph and ant will lay down some keys and some more group stuff like clapping the f**k out of some tracks, and tambo. yeah.

we've been here everyday with wayne 'the con man' connolly who is producing the album. he likes to do a lot of improv such as one liners about 'the square people'. you had to be there, no really, you had to be. and engineering is reyne who was once the proud ruler of the fusball table, but has since fallen in defeats to most of us. i know i beat him. beat him good.

so i'm gonna get back to watching some conchords now, until next time

Feel It Leave

This is the clip for Feel It Leave.. It was mostly shot on tour in the US on our hand held, and a large portion of stage footage was shot by our (I'm gonna call him sidekick) good friend Grant Campbell..you will see him close to the end of this clip (although you may mistake him for Billy Corgan).. and we hope you enjoy..

Record: Update 1

One last show now before we prep every song in our list for the album. There's so much creativity coming out of us at the moment that i feel like we'll end up demoing a new album whilst in studio. Alberts has a backroom that we'll definately be using in our spare time to a) sleep in b) do external work c) artwork for the album d) record a batch of demos and e) isolation room.

But this thursday we play a sold out show with Okkervil River which will be awesome to be alongside them, and we'll chuck in a few of the new ones for the sake of guaging the crowds response!

And finally, i'm putting out a dub challenge to the rest of the band.. Via youtube, I'm going to ask those interested in the 'bellies to post a dubbed video from any movie and see if they can get the most hits online.. whether this comes to fruition is another thing!

I'm off to try and find an old casio sound on a new roland and hoping it sound good. We need it for one of our new songs..

Kg

Clips 2

And to follow our videos go to this link http://www.youtube.com/user/TheSeabellies

We'll be making more vids nowadays, like in studio, random, basically anything that is deemed to be of/has some entertainment value.

These are the previous clips for 'Heart Heart Heart Out' and 'Prairie'. 'Feel It leave' was done but again a lot more time has passed than anticipated before it came to life. Once it gets the okay from everyone I'll put it up!

Probably the most tiring film clip ever made.. running around the watagan mountains and losing muscle capabilities the following day is always something you should stretch for.

Kg

Clips

This is a clip put together by Ben Randall of our track 'Song We Don't Speak Of' from the 2007 EP 'Wave Your Fingers To Make The Winters'. It's an awesome clip that we should have put up ages ago, but it seems we always take months to get videos living online.. well not anymore!

Album time!

Welcome to my first blog. Nice to meet you too.

We are currently between Sydney and Newcastle to piece together our debut album. Our track listing will have to be cut down from close to 20 songs so far from material we have been working on from as far back as 2006 until as close as a month ago! Demos for the album are almost done so it'll be pretty exciting to know what songs we're looking at..

This all commences in May so i'll be reguarly updating on what happens each day

Sleep easy, Kg.
